Unilever Sues Look-Alike Competitor

THE NETHERLANDS: Anglo-Dutch food and soup producer Unilever has accused Dutch retailer Albert Heijn (AH) of deliberately changing the look of many of its house brand items to resemble Unilever’s A-brand products. A lawyer for Unilever showed an array of products to Arnhem Court in a bid to prove its case and pointed to market research, which claimed that 50% of those questioned found it difficult to distinguish between AH and Unilever products. Albert Heijn has denied that it deliberately copied the Unilever look when redesigning the packaging and labels of its house-brand items.
